While driving all day we stopped at Cromwell for a snack. While sitting in a little cafe looking through a magazine there was an article talking about moments of clarity. They spoke of how there are moments where our present comes into focus and the fuzziness that sometimes surrounds life disappears. As we near the end of our journey it is our hope that we have had moments of clarity throughout this trip. Looking around the bus, some students are now focusing on their future thinking of exams and school and jobs, thinking of home. We see others trying to grasp the past, writing in their journals of past events and experiences. And some are simply taking in the scenery that passes by in a blur. It is our hope that this trip has had some affect on our persons, that somehow some bit of us is forever changed. It may be that we focus our present on others rather than ourselves. It may be that we take a greater interest in protecting our environment, performing kaitiakitanga in our own country. If anything, we all will be educators and storytellers as we share our moments of clarity with all of you at home.
P.S. After an all day drive through beautiful and dynamic landscapes, we all arrived safely in Christchurch last night and celebrated with a family Thai dinner.
